Classical Music Quiz

This classical music quiz asks 15 questions about composers, their eras and their ninths — trivia that was written twice before it was asked once.

What the quiz asks

Fifteen questions on the standing furniture of the concert tradition: composers, the eras they belong to, and their ninths. It works as a composer quiz first — names, periods, and the facts attached to them — and it stays deliberately clear of chart trivia and this-year’s-artists material, which the site leaves out because charts churn.

Two authors, one answer key

Every answer behind this quiz was written twice. Two authors, working separately and without sight of each other’s work, each produced the full set of values, and the two versions were then compared key by key: all 68 agreed. That includes two famous composers who sit right on an era boundary — both authors filed them identically, without conferring. Agreement between independent people, not one person’s confidence, is what stands behind each correct answer here.

Four options per question, instant marking. A wrong pick shows you the correct answer immediately instead of saving the news for the end — though the end brings a full review of all fifteen anyway. Your best score is saved in your browser between visits, and nothing ever asks you to register.

Era questions are where most runs wobble, because the boundaries are real but the music never respected them cleanly. Miss one, read the answer that appears, and take the run again; the saved score will tell you when the eras have finally settled into place.
