Instrument Quiz

An instrument quiz of 20 questions on the orchestra, family by family — no audio, no signup, playable straight from the page.

The ground it covers

Twenty questions on the orchestra, taken family by family. This is an orchestra instruments quiz in the plain sense: it is about the instruments themselves, not the players, not the recordings, not the charts. Working through the orchestra one family at a time keeps the set orderly — you can feel exactly where your knowledge runs out.

One thing this page is not: a guess-the-instrument-sound game. There is no audio on this site by choice — ear training deserves real sound, and a silent page pretending to test your ear would be a worse page. What can be tested silently is what you know about the orchestra, and that is what these twenty questions do. There is no song-or-artist trivia here either; charts churn, orchestras don’t.

How the material was checked

The trivia behind this quiz — orchestral families among it — was written twice by independent authors and then compared value by value. All 68 keys agreed, 68 of 68, before a single question was generated. That is the whole method: if two people writing separately arrive at the same fact, the fact goes in. Nothing rests on one writer’s memory.

Taking the quiz

Four options per question, an instant right or wrong the moment you pick, and the correct answer shown either way, so every miss is corrected on the spot. After the twentieth question the page lays out a full review of the run. Your best score is saved in your browser — nothing more personal than that is stored, and there is no signup at all. Open the instrument quiz, play it through, and see which family you actually know and which one you have been nodding along to.
